Thanksgiving is a great event we celebrate each year here in America. It’s something traditional we do as families gather and spend time with one another. It’s origins however come from what was known as a “Harvest Festival” which those courageous europeans brought with them when they arrived in the shores of the America.
We have many traditions brought to us by people not native to the US which we celebrate here. Ours is a diverse country full of people from different parts of the world. We all embrace the traditions here as our own, but should give Thanks to those who brought them here to us.
If you think of the simple challenges of survival here when people came from the shores of another part of the world to arrive in unknown and unproved lands. It was a very large risk and a survival game. Thank goodness they had that courage and desire!
Thanksgiving is at the very least and in it’s simplest form a way of showing that people were simply grateful for food. They worked hard, those first pilgrims and knew that just having food on the table was something to be very thankful for.
I am honored to recognize and Give Thanks to our forefathers from Europe that came here facing incredible challenges, who managed to survive and flourish under hardships that most of us today might not survive and yet still passed on a tradition of Giving Thanks just to have food.
I hope and wish that all of us her in America pause and appreciate what we have and where we live with our freedoms and privileges which most of us tend to forget. Even today with the struggles we face we still live in a magnificent part of the world. Our harvest is also a harvest of Freedom.
Thanksgiving is the celebration of giving Thanks for a Harvest that sustains us and with that I Give Thanks for simple things and I am truly grateful I am able to put food on my table and live freely.
